Hi Everyone,
I want to share with you my theory on borscht. If you don’t know, borscht is a delicious soup from Eastern Europe. It can have all sorts of things in it, beets and cabbage and potatoes and pork and beef and green peppers and mushrooms and tomato sauce to name a few. With each passing day the flavor of the borscht deepens and by the third and fourth days the taste is incredible. And typically there’s a dollop of sour cream put on the top as well. I’ll never forget the first time I had my then fiancée’s borscht. It was in her flat in Minsk, Belarus on Thanksgiving Day last year. It was one of the best bowls of soup I’d ever eaten. Much has changed since that bowl of Thanksgiving borscht. My fiancée immigrated to the United States and we got married. But one thing hasn’t changed. I still eat my wife’s borscht everyday for lunch. And that’s where my theory on borscht comes in. Everyday the employees here at the credit union see me eating my borscht and they wonder if I ever get tired of it. The answer is no and the reason is that even though I eat borscht everyday this is the first time I have ever eaten this bowl of borscht. That’s why everyday when I eat my borscht I enjoy it as much as the day before and the week before and even as much as that first bowl of Thanksgiving borscht.
My theory on borscht can be applied to just about every aspect of our life. Gardening is about doing the same things every season. But every year as the garden grows with beautiful flowers and vegetables their beauty is not diminished by thoughts of past gardens. And the same holds true for your finances too. Do you spend loads of money trying to get a feeling of satisfaction and at the end of the day you just wind up with lots of bills? Maybe that feeling of satisfaction is already there and all you need to do is put away the check book and the credit cards and just look at what you already have. Maybe the satisfaction you’re looking for is in your daily bowl of borscht.
In closing I want to shift gears. In early January Joe Karas, one of our senior loan officers is retiring. All of our members and employees love Joe because of the kindness he shows to all those around him. Thank you Joe for many years of service to the credit union’s members and give your grandkids a hug from all of us.
Till Next Time,
